La Escaramuza

The initial inspiration for the illustration was western frontier paintings. The artist goal was to incorporate Mexican culture into those settings as Escaramuzas have always been a part of Mexican and American rural life. The colorful backdrops and skeletons further emphasize the Mexican culture as they pay homage to Dia de los Muertos. The fusion brings together classical paintings and what represents Manola and Maria as artists.
